“I’m terrible at this,” these negative words escape my daughter’s mouth, piercing the air and also my heart. This phrase stings like an open wound, especially coming from the mouth of my six year old daughter. Please don’t think you are terrible at something already. Please don’t let the lies loom large already, God. Allow Your truth to be louder. In a battle cry response, my mind retaliates:
Lies can feel deafening, my daughter; however as you grow, I hope you remember these whispers of truth tugging at your ear.
You are a child of God. You have always known you are my child, but I am faulty and far from perfect. However, you are a child of God, dear one; what joy is this as He is the perfect parent! (Romans 8:14 NIV)
You are chosen. Not picked haphazardly or appointed by chance. You are set apart, by the Creator. He has a plan for your life! (Jeremiah 1:5)
You are made in His image. God created you and breathed life into your lungs. He made you in His image to know Him and reflect Him. As an image bearer, your life has value! (Genesis 1:27)
You are His masterpiece. He created you perfectly and with such care—a beautiful piece of artwork. He made you new in Christ and has good things planned for your life. (Ephesians 2:10)
He has a beautiful inheritance in heaven for you. By choosing to live for Christ, dear one, you have a delightful inheritance waiting in heaven. Earthly successes fail in comparison to one day seeing Jesus face to face. (Psalm 16:6)
Remember these truths, precious daughter. May you remember these words are ALWAYS true of you! And I promise I will try to remember them, too.
Before I leave her princess adorned room, my brain spirals out of control, thinking of all I need to do to fix this situation. Yet one final whisper remains; there is only one thing I need to do: remember the truth of God‘s word in my own heart. Thank You, Lord, for these whispered truths.
